Don’t Let The Pandemic Ruin Your Future Plans

December 18, 2020

The year 2020 may be coming to an end soon but the challenges brought about by the pandemic are still greatly affecting most of us.

Some business owners were forced to cease their operations which unfortunately caused thousands of employees to lose their jobs. As a result, our country is now facing a high record of unemployment.

A 23-year old male, used to earn 365 pesos a day delivering school supplies but now has lost his income due to the lockdown. He says:

“It’s really very hard. No work, no food to eat. There’s nothing we can do except to bear it. That’s better than me and my family getting sick."

The Philippine government has allocated around 655 billion pesos to help the people during this crisis and 59 billion pesos for the healthcare system. However, with almost 9 months of imposed restrictions, these budgets proved to be inadequate in sustaining the daily needs of the entire population.

Access to technology has also been a major problem for some students and teachers since the onset of the new normal. With the current distance learning setup, some students have been  falling behind, failing classes or not showing up at all.

A 15-year old Grade 10 student says that virtual learning may keep him safer during this pandemic but makes it harder for him to learn and stay motivated. . His online classes are 3 to 4 times a week, from 8 am until 11am only, so he spends most of his time staying up late at night and sleeping a lot during the day.
