Since December we’ve been experiencing colder weather that everyone has been enjoying. There are even some families go to Baguio and Tagaytay for an even colder feel. Along with the cold weather, however, are viruses that spread easily. These viruses live and survive in the cold weather. In fact, there have been many cases of bronchitis, flu, cough, colds, and pneumonia recently. Just this month, the Department of Health declared a measles outbreak which affected 8,443 individuals and 136 deaths. Last Wednesday, there was a reported MERS-CoV scare when a man who came from Saudi Arabia was brought to a hospital in Laguna. He was then immediately transferred to RITM for isolation, but it was also confirmed on Wednesday evening that the person is negative from the said virus.
As a parent, how would you feel if you hear this news on TV? Of course, you’d feel scared as you do not want any of your family members to get sick that’s why it is essential to be safe and protected all the time.

Proper washing of hands and taking a bath regularly also help in keeping away the dirt, bacteria and prevent you from having infections. You can also opt to wear masks when going to public places for added protection.
2. Visit your family doctor if you are having signs of flu or fever for more than three days. Don’t self-medicate.
Check your kid’s vaccination record to see if there are booster shots that need to be given or in case there are any vaccines that you missed. Vaccines must be completed to make the immune system ready in fighting the infections.
