Keeping Your Kids Safe

From shopping the cutest school supplies, getting the uniforms done, to getting new haircuts. Back to school season is just around the corner and we know that most parents and their kids are already excited about it!

But it can’t be helped that most parents are worried and nervous, too--especially if it’s their kid’s first day at school. Don’t mention it, we totally understand! That is why we prepared five tips on how to keep your kids safe while they are at school.

1. First off, you have to make sure that before you send your kids to school, they already know and memorize their full name, address, their parent/guardian’s name and contact details in case of emergency. Remember that your kids being at school is one of the times where you are not around them, so it’s best that your kids know how to find and contact you directly should the need arises.

2. Reminding your kids every now and then to refrain from talking to strangers may be the most usual instruction of a parent, but it is also the most neglected. Have your kids oriented mainly about safety and how they must act should some stranger approach them. Also let them know that security guards and police officers are someone to ask help for and not to be afraid of.

3. Most of kid’s school supplies can be harmful for them especially if not used properly. Make sure to teach them the proper use of these supplies particularly scissors, cutters, pencils and pens, rulers, etc. Also, it is normal for kids to borrow these kinds of things, so it’s important to teach them how to hand over these supplies to their friends or classmates safely to avoid injuries.

4. It is important to ask your kids how their day went after school. Ask them open ended questions that will encourage them to tell you their stories. This will help you get a hold of what they do in between and during classes and should you find anything concerning about it, you can bring it up with their teacher for a resolve.

5. Kids have weaker immune systems compared to adults. Make sure you include sanitizer in their bags and teach them when to use it. Also, don’t forget to give them their daily dose of vitamins in complement with their healthy meals. And to completely protect their health, apply them for an health insurance plan that will provide daily cash assistance during unexpected hospital confinement.
